There are multiple ways to create and edit content in your Northwestern Box account.

  • Moving the Sync folder to a new location on the same computer or to an external USB drive. Overview: The easiest method to move your Sync folder to a new location is to Pause Sync, then manually move the Sync folder from the current location to the new location using Windows File Explorer or Mac Finder.
  • Content that syncs down to your computer are available for offline access. If you make changes to the synced files locally, these changes automatically sync back up to your Box account. Downloading Box Sync. Look for Box Sync in the WCM App Store on your tagged device. Untagged devices may not install Box Sync.

Using Box Sync, you can now sync desktop files to Box and collaborate on shared folders directly from your desktop. It's supported on Windows 7, Vista and XP, with Mac support coming soon. We are rolling it out for free to Box Business and Enterprise users over the summer.

Box Drive

Box Drive is a desktop program that allows you to stream files to your desktop using your internet connection, and optionally download folders and files for offline use. You can create, edit, and manage files using the Box folder on your computer, or create files on your computer and then put them in the Box folder. Any changes made on Box.com or in the Box folder on your computer are synced automatically.
Unlike Box Sync, which downloads files to your hard drive, Box Drive does not use space on your hard drive unless you choose to use folders offline.

Box Sync is a desktop program that allows you to access your Box files and folders offline. After you specify which folders to sync, using the Box.com website, Box Sync downloads these folders to your computer. Using Box Sync, you can create, edit, and manage files from either the Box Sync folder on your computer or the Box website. Any changes made in either location will automatically be synced. Note that Box Sync uses space on your hard drive, so take care not to sync too many folders, as you can run out of space.

Note: Before using Sync on mobile devices, see Using enterprise Box on mobile devices.

The Sync feature for enterprise Box allows you to easily sync files between your desktop and other devices. This is especially useful for files you wish to be able to access offline and/or work on frequently.

To download Sync, log into your enterprise Box account. From My Account at the top, click Get Box Sync and follow the prompts.

After you have installed the Sync application, check Use my company's single sign-on credentials (Windows) or Use Single Sign On (Mac), or select the Single Sign-on option for your mobile device. Enter your IU email address, and authenticate with your Network ID username and passphrase.

Notes:

  • Box does not sync files by default. You will need to log into Box on the web and indicate which folders you wish to sync.
  • Box Sync can only sync top-level folders, or folders that are in the 'All files and folders' section of your Box account.
  • Box must sync with the My Box Files folder; if you rename this folder, Box will re-create it and duplicate the synced files.
  • Box Sync is not intended as a tool for uploading folders; instead, log into Box on the web and use the Upload Folders feature.

To sync a folder in Box:

  1. Log into Box.
  2. Hover over the folder you want to sync.
  3. Click the down arrow to the right of the folder.
  4. Select Sync Folder to Computer.
